October Top 3 - Disco Goods for the Season

What’s hot this month: deep, bittersweet disco-House tunes drenched in old soul, heart-wrenching lyrics and sweet, luscious vocals. See below for our top 3 picks coming out this month. Give it up for the lovers and the broken-hearted, these ones are for you:

1. soho808 – Trouble & Strife – Mystery Meat

Following the summer’s smash hit by Bicep on the elusive Mystery Meat imprint comes another excellent platter, this time brought to you by NY’s duo of the moment soho808. The A-side features a beautiful rework of Soul II Soul’s “Back To Life” R&B classic, it’s soft soul and emotive vocals accentuated in this fine cut. On the flip side is a deeper than deep edit of the one and only Suzy Q - properly funked up, soho808 style. Can’t go wrong with this one. Listen here:

2. Dr. Dunks – Dr. Dunks Edits – Disco Deviance

Disco anthem right here by the one and only Dr. Dunks (Rub N’Tug/Keep it Cheap). This new release on the fantastic edit label, Disco Deviance stars the party-happy “Dunks Got the Answer” dance-floor bomb. This tune has all the ingredients for a disco-perfect track: smooth, funky basslines, lazy trumpets, and sultry vocals that belt out “a party…is the solution!” Yes, yes it is. And Disco is the answer. Listen to the whole release here:

3. Dean “Sunshine” Smith – The Sunshine Reworks 002 – Soulshare

After debuting with the highly impressive rework of Hi Gloss’ 1981 hit “You’ll Never Know,” Soulshare Records is back for round two with another slate of excellent deep Disco tunes. This release no less solidifies the label as a quality edits and deep House outfit on the radar. This one offers two infectious disco-Funk selections, full of feel-goodness, stripped of orchestral cheesiness and amped up with fever-hot sexiness. No pun intended. Listen here:
