The Daily Bump: A Soho State of Mind

After filtering through the avalanche of possible contenders for pick for release of the week goes to Soho808’s debut single, From New York with Love on the Brooklyn-based Stupendous Music label (see below for stream and link to download). Admittedly, we might be slightly partial considering this release comes from our homeboys from our hometown but as members on the Board of Good Taste, we’re nodding our heads with approval at this promising new duo. With remixes by Stupendous label artists Hall & Felli and Spain’s deep house honcho Above Smoke this three track package is an all round winning platter of stellar tracks. From New York With Love is the perfect balance of deep, laid back house and disco funk. Nu disco anyone? Not quite, this is an entirely fresh hybrid that grazes along the disco-meets-house slice of sound brewed by labels like Future Classic and Warm Music. But Soho808 clearly has their own thing going on, hitting that soft spot where dubby disco and deep house meet halfway.

Soho808 is a project roughly a year in the works. It arose out of a creative partnership of close friends who share a passion for that intimate, core-hitting deepness of music pitched down and souled up. We have them on our radar - check out more of their tunes here.

In NYC tonight? The duo will be debuting at Ampd! along with Soul Minority from Barcelona. Go here for more event info or RSVP to ampdnyc@gmail.com for reduced admission.
